Auch wenn ich bisher keinerlei sinnvollen Nutzen dieser Plattform gefunden habe (wobei sich da natürlich gleich mal die Frage stellt, ob dieses Blog einen Nutzen hat), so nimmt sie dennoch einen durchaus nachweisbaren Anteil der Freizeit (bzw. bei manchen auch der Arbeitszeit) in Anspruch.

Wenn man Wissen will, was sich im persönlichen sozialen Umfeld so tut kommt man inzwischen nicht mehr um Facebook herum, ohne wichtige Dinge nicht oder nur verspätet zu erfahren (Hallo Johannes).

Interessanterweise gibt es auch ein paar Leute die nur mitlesen aber selber nie aktiv werden oder überhaupt Angst davor haben irgendwas zu veröffentlichen (Hallo Berndt, Hallo David).

Allerdings muss man Facebook – insbesondere seit dem letzten Designwechsel – zugestehen, dass sie nicht auf ihre User hören. Das hat aber auch seinen Grund. Wieviele haben sich über das neue Design beschwert und sind trotzdem noch immer dabei? Solange User nur jammern aber keine Konsequenzen ziehen kann man diese getrost ignorieren, würde ich auch so machen.

Der Designwechsel hatte aber zumindest meiner Meinung nach durchaus einen Sinn der schön langsam auch sichtbar wird. Konnte man davor nur bidirektionale Freindschaftsverbindungen machen (um deren “soziale” Updates zu sehen), so kann man jetzt eine unidirektionale Fanverbindung eingehen um z.B. über Konzerttermine, neue Filme, Produktneuigkeiten etc. aktualisiert zu werden. Eine meiner Meinung nach sehr gut gelungene Art der Opt-In Werbung die durchaus auch einen persönlichen Nutzen für mich bringt.

Ich bin nur gespannt wie lange es dauert, bis die letzten hartnäckigen “unsozialen” Leute auch den Weg dorthin finden…

When you earn your living sitting in front of the computer all day, you eventually find lots of highly effective ways to waste time sitting in front of the computer all day.

After trying — and failing at — jargony productivity plans like GTD and 4HWW, I decided finding the one perfect way to make to-do lists wasn’t the answer. After all, making the to-do list isn’t the important part. Making sure you do the stuff on it is.

And what was keeping me from my to-do lists was the web. When tired or challenged or waiting or stuck I would browse. It was just so much easier than working.

In order to get more done I was going to have to eliminate that easy out, so I came up with the iPhone productivity plan (I use the terms “productivity plan” here loosely and with tongue firmly planted in cheek). Simply put:

• I dumped all the sites I frequent too often into an /etc/hosts file, blocking them on both my laptops
• I added those same sites as bookmarks on my iPhone
• I made sure the things I was working on were — if at all possible — fun and inspiring

Not much to it. At first I was worried that my decreased browsing time would cause me to miss out. But I found that during the course of a day, while waiting in line or stopped at a light, I had plenty of opportunities to catch up.

I also realized those sites that I had previously found so crucial to my everyday life and work didn’t actually have that much information on them that was immediately and absolutely necessary to know. Visiting them once a day or a couple times a week was more than enough.

And, lastly, I made sure the things I was doing with my new found time didn’t suck. I’ve axed a couple things that I no longer enjoyed working on and it’s already showing in my other work. If the real reason you can’t get stuff done is because you hate what you’re doing, no amount of plan will save you.

I’ve been doing this for a few weeks now and it’s been working well for me. Of course you might hate it. That’s the problem with productivity plans, they’re so personal they usually only work for the creator and those who think exactly like them. You’re probably better off not doing anything I or anyone else tells you when it comes to your workflow. Just trial and error your way into your own plan. And then get back to work.

Ich denke das ist eine durchaus sinnvolle Idee, die man mal probieren könnte. Vielleicht geht dann auch wieder mehr an der Diplomarbeit weiter. Andererseits kann ich mir nicht vorstellen das ich das durchziehe, also lass ichs lieber gleich – und füge das Blog zur Liste meiner zu-besuchenden-Seiten hinzu…

The Outbreak ist ein (Online-)Zombie-Film, der das gleiche Konzept verwendet. D.h. man sieht kurze Abschnitte (~1 Minute) und muss sich dann entscheiden was man tun soll. Das Ganze ist nicht schlecht gemacht, und vor allem kann man den Film aufgrund des Konzepts durchaus mehrere Male ansehen, da es sich ja ganz anders entwickeln kann.

Der Atlantik ist ja nicht gerade klein, U-Boote gibt es auch nicht sonderlich viele, da fragt man sich schon, wie groß die Wahrscheinlichkeit von einem derartigen Zusammenstoß überhaupt sein kann.

23.01.2009: Da Ptero Flügel bedeutet, hab ich versucht, herauszufinden, ob Ptil auch was heißt. Hätte ja sein können; dann hätte man auch gleich was über die Vorgängergeneration der Reptilien erfahren. Heißt aber nix. Schade.

24.01.2009: Ich hab das gestern Angesprochene dann noch gedanklich mit H, N, Susaffen, Genwürmern und anderen vermuteten zoologischen Primordialien durchprobiert, ist aber nix dabei herausgekommen. Auch schade.

Also ich glaub bei seinem Versuch mit den (Re)Genwürmern war da noch am ehesten mit Erfolg zu rechnen, als bei allen anderen. Jedenfalls schon sehr genial…

Ich muss dabei leider zugeben das mir bisher nicht bewusst war, dass Afrika wirklich so groß ist. Mag wohl an meinen eher mehr als weniger endlichen Geografie-Kenntnissen liegen. Jedenfalls finde ich das das Bild die Größenverhältnisse durchaus gelungen veranschaulicht.
